Hiking Gear

Listen to this video if you are looking at new hiking gear. I cover what to look for when considering a Backpack, Hiking Shoes/Boots, Poles, Hiking Clothes, Water Bladder, Gortex Jackets, plus other essentials you should carry with you .

If you are interested in preparing for an up and coming TREK or just love getting out in nature, join our HIKEFit Program. Join like-minded adventurers and get fit in the beauty of nature, by completing BUSH HIKES in our wonderful Sydney National Parks, an added benefit is you will improve your mental health at the same time.

I recommend anyone who enjoys being outdoors, who wants to maintain or increase their fitness levels should join our HIKEFit Program. Age is no barrier, infact the average age of the Hikers is 52. It is all about getting you Fit in Nature.

Each Hike is slightly different in terms of KM hiked, ascent or descent, gradients of the hills. Each designed to challenge you and your fitness, however, NOT in a bootcamp sort of way. We walk fast on the flat and at your own pace up hills.

If you are about to go on the Trek of a lifetime, are you physically and mentally prepared? Sonia has climbed and trekked many mountains throughout the world and has the experience to train you correctly for the challenge ahead. These hikes are a great way to begin your training journey.

HIKEFit Sessions are now operating every day. We allow 2-3 hours for each Hike. To find out more about each of our weekly hikes click here.

HIKEFit is all about getting you Fit in Nature. We walk fast on the flat and at your own pace up hills. This is a two + hour exercise program, which is far more enjoyable than hitting the treadmill at the gym.

All hike leaders are qualified fitness trainers, with wilderness or standard first aid certification, our aim is to help you get fit, be happy and healthy in nature.

It is essential you wear appropriate Walking Gear with stable shoes. Include in your backpack essentials like sunhat, sunblock, sunglasses, wet weather gear, torch, bug spray and bring plenty of water (1.5Litres) and a snack. I encourage members to have breakfast or lunch beforehand, so your body has enough fuel to handle the hike.

If you want to see if you are fit enough to join me on one of my HIKEFit programs, then come for a complimentary beginner’s hike. These are generally held in Willoughby, it should only take one-hour and you can pick-up a coffee at the local cafe afterwards. Following this I can give you an assessment of how you will go on our Hikes in Sydney’s National Parks.

We often put a LEVEL on our hikes .. what do levels mean?

All hikes are graded .. level 1-10 (or more !!)
1 being easy, 10 is hard .. sometimes we have level 15+ or super hard !

How we rate the hikes is based on several variants, including track undulation, hills, boulders and distance.

Level 1-5: Standard – 1 level of difficulty per hike
Level 6-8: Moderate – 2 levels of difficulty per hike
Level 9+ : Advanced – 3+ levels of difficulty per hike
