Waratah Fortress
Day Hike
Saturday 11th October

Meeting Point: Bakehouse on Wentworth
16 spots
TREK LEADER: Sonia
Cost $150

We have chosen 2 unique hikes for this Spring Day - one from Leura the other Blackheath

Our 1st Hike , is no so much about the hiking but about the destination. This walk is primarily along a firetrail , however , this hike has been chosen to be done in spring, as you will encounter the largest number of waratahs in one hike, I counted over 400 waratah last year and that was at the end of the season .

But even better, once you get to the end - another WOW factor happens. Magnificent views of Hanging Rock and the Grose Wilderness. This is an easy 10km walk. We visit Baltzer Lookout first, then we head to Hanging Rock.

Following this hike we will head into Blackheath for a picnic lunch, supplied by Sterling Fitness

Hike 2 is Fortress Rock Lookout and Fortress Ridge approx. 10km. This is a stunning trail exploring the beauty of Fortress Ridge in the Blue Mountains National Park. At the end there are absolutely stunning views of Lockleys Pylon, and down the Grose Valley to Mount Bank and Docker Head.

So as you can see why this day hike is titled Waratah Fortress !!

Glow Worm / Valley of Dinosaurs Trekking Weekend

October 31st - Nov 2nd 2025
10 Hikers
TREK LEADER: Mark and Sonia
Cost $1320

Sterling Fitness is goin to lead you on 3 amazing hikes over two days out from Lithgow. We will stay in Blackheath Friday and Saturday nights, so we can take out time to enjoy the day hikes. The three hikes are famous in the "world of hiking" we will take you there.
Limited to only 12 hiking spots with 2 hike coaches, this will be an exciting weekend . These hikes are based in the Wollemi and Newnes National Park.. All these national parks offer sights an scenery like you have never scene before.
Its an area of slots, pagodas and incredible rick formations . Currently these areas are more remote, less trails, hence they are not popular, but the government is considering making it a tourist areas, so we should visit before this happens.
HIKE 1: Saturday Morning - The Hidden Canyon -- we hike through a forest down into the valley ., and here we find an amazing DRY canyon .. we take out time to explore this beautiful canyon and continue through the the end where we can look over the valley floor below. Out and back track 4km

HIKE 2: Glow Worm Tunnel This is a 9km or 13km hike in the Wollemi National park, we will get up close and personal with the sandstone cliffs before they merge into a canyon only 20 meters wide and shrouded in ferns. After the sandstone cliffs, you enter the Glow Worm Tunnel ( 387m long), where we will need a torch, however, we will need NO LIGHT within the tunnel to witness the glow worms. With thousands of glow worms along the sides and roof of the tunnel, a fascinating effect of the stars is produced. At the other end of the glow worm tunnel, we are on the Pagoda Trail, which takes you through a eucalypt forest with many bird species back to our original trail. During spring and summer, the walking track is dotted also with yellow pagoda daisies We will enjoy a picnic lunch while out in the hike.

HIKE 2: Sunday Mid Morning - Valley of the Dinosaurs. This is a 7km hike near Capertree. We either walk a steep 1km track to the start of the hike, or car pool with as many 4WD that are present (the hike coaches will have access to 1 x 4WD to car pool). . The Valley of the Dinosaurs has fantastic scenery and views. The track features incredible rock formations, chasms, grottos, overhangs, and views. And many say it like being in the set of Jurassic Park

Putty Beach to Little Beach
Day Hike
Saturday 13th December

16 spots
TREK LEADER: Sonia
Cost $150

Starting at Killcare, we begin our day with a beach walk. We walk along Killcare & Putty Beach. We cut through Putty Beach car park and start our first climb to our first view point and then onto our first lookout, Marie Byles Lookout. Palm Beach can be seen in the distance.

From here, we continue into the bush along Bullimah Spur Track and then follow Stroms Trail walking parallel with Scenic Drive through eucalypt trees. These tracks meander through bushland with sweeping views across to the ocean and Maitland Bay.
We then turn towards the coastline and cross a spur taking us to our highest point on the walk, Mount Bouddi. The trail descends from Mount Bouddi to the Coast track just north of Maitland Bay. We pass another lookout point on the descent back towards the coastline.
We follow the coast track and then veer off onto the Old Quarry track before swinging back around to head to Little Beach, a beautiful small beach with one of the most scenic campsites near Sydney. We are just over our halfway point.

After a break, we follow the coastal trail back to Maitland Bay. The first section is inland taking us through rainforest, before bringing us to the coastline where we have sweeping views for the remainder of the walk. The trail is undulating. Just before Maitland Bay we will walk out to Bouddi Point for spectacular views south and down to Maitland Bay. We may spot the remains of the SS Maitland, an old steam ship that ran aground in 1898. When we descend to Maitland Bay, if the tide is low, we can walk to the shipwreck for a closer look at what remain

You can complete this hike as a fullday hike, or you can meet us at the lunch point and walk the return to Killcare. the Second half is just as spectacular as the first as you get to see Killcare amazing Tessellated rocks.

Andes Trekking Adventure to Machu Picchu
& The Inti Raymi Festival

12th - 25th June 2026
14 day Trekking Adventure
Min 8 Hikers
Trek Leaders : Sonia
Price $9550

We completed this in 2017 and I would love to take YOU back and see the unexplored areas of the Andes as we hike into Machu Picchu

This is an exclusive trip designed for Sterling Fitness that will appeal to anyone seeking a challenge in a remote and remarkable part of the world.
Starting in Cusco we discover the historical and cultural highlights of the area before continuing to the famed Sacred Valley. This not only allows for us to acclimatise to the altitude, but also provides a fascinating introduction to Incan culture and history before we commence our trek.

Our trekking route takes us along a little visited trail through breathtaking mountain scenery as we make our way to the foothills of the majestic snow capped peaks of Salcantay, Humantay and Huayanay. For a week we explore the stunning wilderness of the Peruvian Andes. On the final day we join the classic Inca Trail for the unforgettable sight of Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate’. Rather than rushing back to Cusco, we spend a night in nearby Aguas Calientes for a well deserved soak in the local hot springs. We allow a morning in Aguas Calientes to return to Machu Picchu to climb the challenging Huayna Picchu or enjoy the town and its cultural setting.

We then return to Cusco where will have a full day to soak up the atmosphere and witness Cusco’s biggest festival, Inti Raymi, or the Festival of the Sun.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable encounter with Peruvian culture, history and wilderness — one that gets you off the beaten track but takes in the must see sights of Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machu Picchu — then this is the adventure for you!

NSW PARKS has JUST closed this sublime steps !

We will meet at the Austimer Train Station at 8:30am
Pass through Austimer and collect your coffee before meeting at the train station .
As there is only one train every 2 hours , we don’t want to miss the 8:50 train to COALCLIFF.

The track now continues to climb another 100m in elevation and we are amazed by the beautiful Gymea Lily bushes, some will be flowering, others in their green leaf glory . Keep your eyes open as you may spot the rare NSW Waratah on the track.
Before entering Sublime point, we will show you the home of the Tawny Frog Mouth Owl rock formation and a perfect place to take your HIKING selfie.
Now to the hard part of the trail , we need to descent 5 sets of steep steel ladders before descending 300 metres straight down on some nicely made steps.
40mins after leaving sublime point we will be back at our cars, and our calves will need a good stretch. We encourage you to go for a post hike dip in the Ocean and then join us for a post hike drink at The Headland Bar & Bistro in Austimer.. ‘Sterlings Shout’

Blue Mountains Day Hike
Mt Solitary ***

Dependent upon opening of local tracks
9 Hikers
TREK LEADER: Nicola and Sonia
Cost $199

*** dependent upon NSW Park closures
Starting at Glenrapheal Drive, we walk the Narrow Neck entry, Hike to Ruined castle, then hike up Korowal Knife Edge along a rough unformed track on the western ridge of Mount Solitary. We will return on the same path

Mt Solitary is one of NSW hardest day Hikes, to complete this day hike you will need to have demonstrated good hiking capability on our weekly HIKEFit sessions.

Words from Nicola "When you look off Echo Point Lookout, Katoomba the 3 Sisters are to your left. Ahead lies dense bushland of the Kedumba Valley and a giant flat topped mountain with sandstone cliffs. This is Mount Solitary. Thousands of visitors peer from the lookout every day but very few will be able to visit the mountain. This means that our trek is almost a secret trail with magnificent views and one that delivers a huge sense of achievement. You must train for this hike."

We will have an early start, so you may choose to stay in Katoomba (at your own expense )
